Every year, our family welcomes a homestay guest. This year’s guest was a large, kind-looking Black man who greeted us with a warm 'Konnichiwa!' One night, while I was grieving because our family pet had passed away, he offered to sleep beside me to comfort me. What started as consolation turned into a physical overhaul as my body was forced open by a member as thick as a human arm. As he repeatedly pressed into depths he should never have reached, I could see my own stomach swelling and shifting—the physical transformation of my tiny frame.
